Bernegger and Tenure
My wife's maternal grandparents were Joseph Bernegger, my son's namesake, and Ethel Tenure. Rudolf Bernegger and Anna Ackerman migrated to New York from Switzerland in 1883, where their family thrived. Their grandson, Joseph, was a special FBI agent, tax accountant, and successful executive.
The Tenures trace back their origins to French Huguenots and were one of the founding families of New Amsterdam in 1650. This family stood on the front lines of the War of Independence and the U.S. Civil War, which scarred the family for generations. |
